Okay, sorry. But this post really is about my cover.
So…there was a minor snag in the cover art for Personal Demons, but I heard from my seriously cool editor yesterday and we’re back on track. What that means for me, and any of you waiting on ARCs, is that the wait is going to be just a little longer. We’re really hoping to have ARCs out with a totally fabulous cover in mid-June.
In the meantime, I thought it’d be fun to have all of you help with the cover design. Remember that we’re talking about a paranormal romance—angels, demons. For those of you not familiar with my book, here’s the Personal Demons jacket copy:
Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a bit of a wicked streak. She's spent years keeping everyone at a distance—even her closest friends—and it seems her senior year will be more of the same...until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can't seem to stay away from him. What she doesn't know is that Luc works in Acquisitions—for Hell—and she possesses a unique skill set that has the king of Hell tingling with anticipation. All Luc has to do is get her to sin, and he’s as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn’t stand a chance.
Unfortunately for Luc, Heaven has other plans, and the angel, Gabe, is going to do whatever it takes to make sure that Luc doesn’t get what he came for. And it isn't long before they find themselves fighting for more than just her soul.
But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay…for all of them.
So, we're gonna play a cover game. I’m posting images below and taking votes. Comment below with your choice of cover concept. (Disclamer: None of these are actually going to be my cover. We're having fun. Fun! FUN, I SAY!!! SMILE!)
Okay, here we go:

Oops! That one’s already taken.

It doesn't really fit my book, but what's not to like? It will certainly catch peoples' eye, and that's the purpose of a cover, right?
So, what do you think? I promise to
Ooooh. While #1 does make me laugh, I have to say #4 is GORGEOUS. So I vote for #4. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the blurb. I'm itching to read it now.
Haha, I would have a creative suggestion: put the characters of cover 2 (love the smokey eyes-pale complexion-pink tutu combo of the covergirl) in front of the background of cover 4! The pink tutu will definitely add a splash of colour and represent Frannie's "wicked streak" in an ordinary, bleak, apocalyptic setting! :-)
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to read your novel, it sounds fascinating!!
I love image 2!! But image 4 will be more fitting for your novel. I suggest we out the girl in the middle (it would be more fun if she's holding a rosary or something since she's a catholic) Then the two boys on the sides. :)
ReplyDeleteSo glad the snag has been taken care of!
ReplyDeleteI think the concept of #5 is really awesome. I would love to see a cover similar to that. #4 is nice too, but it's too Fallen/Torment looking. I want something like #5 have it be Luc/Frannie/Gabe. I really like Precious' idea. Frannie in the middle and then have one guy on the red side and the other on the blue. I wouldn't mind #6 either. :D
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the final cover!
I love #2 and #4, so hard to pick! Prolly #4 it's dark and edgy :)
ReplyDeleteGotta go with #4 Lisa. It's dark and edgy and ominous. I like it.
ReplyDeleteHOT BOYS WITH SWORDS PASTRY DELIVERY SERVICE!:D
ReplyDeleteIf you can get the edgy dark ominous from #4 into #5. That would be kick-ass. (Hugs)Indigo
ReplyDeleteI saw the title of your post and got all excited! Rushed over to check out the PD cover! Tease :)
ReplyDeleteOoo! Interesting. We have a lot of support for image #4, but as a hybrid with either image #2 or 5. Excellent...
ReplyDeleteActually, image 2 really does fit the book (it's a very steamy romance and that could easily be Luc and Frannie if her hair was blond) but so do 4 and 5.
Personally, I'm still leaning toward image #1. :p
I love image 2! It's gorgeous and I love how the hot pink colour of the dress absolutely pops against the stark grey of the background- eye catching if there was ever such a thing.
ReplyDeleteJust one thing that bothers me about covers in general IMHO :)--I dislike it when the cover has people on it with their faces blaring out, because I feel like it doesn't let me imagine how I want the characters to be myself. And if I happen to dislike the cover model and his/her face then I can't enjoy the book as much because I can't reconcile the hot boys (no doubt there will be!) in the story with how they supposedly look based on the cover models. But that's just my humble opinion, and not a very coherent explanation either, at that. (x
Also one more thing- if there were cover models then it'd be awesome if their faces were half averted or cut off before I see their faces, like umm...for example Kelley Armstrong's Darkest Powers series, or like Image 2 up there, where I enjoy the overall nuance and look of the picture but am not force-fed their faces as reference for the characters :)
ReplyDeleteWow #1 definitely! I love the composition and the way it was put together. Whoever did it has a VERY advanced, technical grasp of graphic design for book covers. It's just overall, what's the word, more harmonious and AESTHETICALLY PLEASING than covers #2-6.
ReplyDeleteAnd looking at the models, you can practically TASTE the sexual tension between Luc and the model in the yellow jacket, amirite?! That photoshoot must've been ELECTRIFYING!! in MY humble, unbiased opinion, I think cover #1 is where it's at! loolo
Chant it with me now, "Numah Four! Numbah Four! Numbah Four!"
ReplyDelete........number 6........
;-)
Alyssa--interestingly, full faces was part of the cover snag. I feel the same way you do.
ReplyDeleteJude--Plus the girl in image 1 is just stunning, don't you think? :p
M.G.--6 it is! =)
he pink tutu will definitely add a splash of colour and represent Frannie's "wicked streak"
